Pomfret\Avoli Masala
Pomfret Masala with Gambooge/Kodampuli. Its not the tradition red fish curry but it has all the same ingredients in different proportion. Also the fish is slightly fried before incorporating it with the gravy. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Pomfret cut into 2 inch slices - 2 whole
Onions thinly sliced - 2
Ginger finely chopped - 2 inch
Garlic finely chopped - 1 tbsp
Grenn Chilly finely chopped - 3.
Coriander Powder - 3tsp
Chilly Powder -1 tsp
Turmeric -1/2 tsp
Gambooge/kodampuli - 5
Coconut Milk - 1/4 cup (optional)
Water - 1/4 cup
Curry leaves few
Oil -1/4 Cup
Salt
For Fish Fry:
Turmeric -1/2 tsp
chilly powder - 1 tsp
salt
- Mix all the ingredients with fish and shallow fry it in oil. It has to be just a quick fry may be 5 min each side.
- Take it from oil and set aside
- Use the same oil to Sauté onions, ginger, garlic, green chilly, curry leaves
- When the onions start to turn golden brown add turmeric, coriander and chilly powder
- Sauté for 2 min then add washed kodampuli/gamboge with water
- when it starts to boil add the fried fish, close the lid and lower the heat.
- This point before adding fish you can add coconut milk if you like, it gives a rich flavor or you can omit it
- When the gravy thickens its ready.
